1938 Austin Big 7 Van
Sold
Location: Cranleigh
The Austin Big 7 was introduced in 1937 to fill the gap between the baby Austin 7 and the big father Austin 10. Supplied with a 4 speed manual gearbox, the 900 cc engine has a counterbalanced crankshaft, inclined valves and downdraught carburation which is ample to give a good performance. The Big 7 also came with a 'luxury' electric windscreen wiper, pressed steel wheels and a luggage carrying platform.
This 1938 Austin Big 7 Van is possibly the rarest of all Austin 7 Van variants. It starts and runs well, it has been fitted with 12V electrics and a modern alternator which to be fair doesn't look out of place. The engine is very sweet and goes along very nicely, there is no frost damage and all fluids are in the correct places.
The drive train is in good order and fitted with the correct 4 speed gearbox, the brakes are also very good and the van drives along very nicely.
The van has been well restored and is not concours but is very nice. New panels and woodwork to the rear, it has been finished well inside and out. The upholstery has also been retrimmed and is as good as the day it was fitted.
We have the V5 and it is correctly registered as a van.
